Paper Lace

Wanna see what I did today?

Hello, this blog post is going to be all about papercutting. I love paper cutting, one of my old GCSE art teachers introduced me to Rob Ryan's work a long time ago and since then I have been addicted to paper cutting. Below is some of his work but if you want to see some more check out http://www.misterrob.co.uk/ I could look through his work for hours!

At the moment I am working on a 'Fairytales' art project, this week I took photos of lots and lots of lace, because I though that the patterns would suit my 'fairytales' art project quite well.
A photo of the original lace~

Anyway, I had the idea of making my own paper-lace! It sounded like a good idea at the time, but I didn't really think about how long it would take. Making only an A4 paper size piece of paper lace took  me nearly 5 hours!! I took an iPhone shot every hour because I though that it would be fun to instagram them every  hour so that my followers could see how it was going. (@ppp_pancake).
1 hour

2 hours

3 hours
4 hours

4 and a half hours

I sometimes think that I like things when they look unfinished, I'm not sure why but I think that I prefer the 3hour photo.... what do you think?
Paper cutting is not that difficult but you need to be very delicate and have a LOT of patience! I had to do soooo many experiments before I started this piece because the bits of paper kept breaking off- (and I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to papercutting!)

If you want to try some paper cutting yourself, just practice and be patient~
All you need is a craft knife, a pencil, a rubber and the paper you want to cut! Then just let your imagination make a pattern...

Here are the final photos, I took them on a black background because I wanted them to look like the real lace photos (above). But now I realise that the colour backgrounds look a LOT better~~ I don't think that it's finished yet- maybe I could carry it on and see who much of the page I can fill??

I hope that you enjoyed the long post and my work~ if you have any questions about paper cutting just comment below....
Bye Everyone
